2016 Iran Men’s Division One Volleyball League Championship
League one ready to compete in 25th Cup
The 25th edition of Men’s volleyball League One Championship commemorating “Shohadaye Mena” (Mina Martyrs) began on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.
Sixteen teams were registered to take part in the 25th Men’s League one, eleven of whom have taken the berth while the other ones can join the rest in case of meeting their financial obligations and paying the tournament entry.
Based upon the decisions were made in the drawing of lots, sixteen teams set up the preliminary round within two pools of:
Pool I: Mahabad Moghavemat, Urmia Shahrdari Javan, Ardabil Representative, Qom Karimeh, Nahaja Oghab, Hamedan Folulad Vian, Javan Kaleh, and Qazvin Representative.
Pool II: Fars Mehr Pars, Hormozgan Aluminum, Damghan Nirougah Sikl Tarkibi, Sirjan Golgohar, Kerman Lastik Barez, Isfahan Ra’d Padafand, Tehran Malavan, and Kashan Farsh-e Mohtasham.
League one is to be followed within two preliminary and play-off stages. The preliminary round is to be held in home and away matches.
The home matches of preliminary round would take seven weeks from November 2 up to December, 14. League one is performed every Wednesday. The only exception is 30 November when is coincided with the Martyrdom of Imam Reza (AS) and there will not be any matches on Wednesday, instead they will be shifted into Thursday.
The away matches will last seven weeks from December 21 up to January 25. By the end of preliminary round, the top four teams will move up to play-off that is in the form of two wins out of three matches. Those teams with highest wins from the preliminary round would take hosting advantage of the first and third encounters.
The first stage of play-off (quarterfinal) is recorded to be on Wednesday, February 1 (for home matches) and Wednesday, February 18 (for away matches) and the third match if required is to be held on Sunday, February 12.
In this stage, the top eight teams of preliminary round (the top four teams will compete in a round robin system; therefore, the winners will ascend to the second round of play-off (semifinal) and the losers will miss the chance overall.
The second stage of play-off (semifinal) is to be held on Wednesday, 15 February (for home match) and 22 February (for away match) and if any third match is required, it will be set on Sunday, 26 February. In this stage, the top four teams will move up to semifinal and compete in a round-robin system. By the end of second round of play-off, the winners will find their way up to the final while the losers will move to classification.
The third stage of play-off is to be held on Wednesday, 1 March (for home match) and 8 March (for away match) and if any third match is required, it will be set on Sunday, 12 March.
The champion and the vice-champion will take the berth for the next year’s league wile the last two teams will move down to the sub-league.
The number of wins is preferred to the scoring in this tournament, the same as the other ones; thus, the ranking will be done respectively in terms of number of wins, scoring, set average, and point average.
The 24th edition of league one – commemorating 200 volleyball Martyrs – took place with 19 participating teams. Arak Shahrdari and Sari Omran Shahrdari ranked the first top two and could find their way into the premier league. Kaleh Javan and Bojnourd Shahrdari were jointly entitled the third last year.
