IRIVF agrees to appoint Vladimir Alekno as coach
TEHRAN – The Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF)’s Boad of Directors reached a joint agreement to appoint the Russian as new trainer on Wednesday.
Daniel Castellani, Andrea Giani, Ferdinando De Giorgi and Lorenzo Bernardi were also among the candidates in the running to take the helm of Iran.
Alekno will lead Iran at the 2021 Men’s Volleyball Nations League and Tokyo Olympic Games.
The 53-year-old coach will replace Igor Kolakovic who parted company with Iran in March.
In the Olympic Games, Iran have been drawn in Pool A along with Japan, Poland, Italy, Canada and Venezuela.
Pool B consists of Brazil, USA, Russia, Argentina, France and Tunisia.
